RossCarmichael
Hello all, This obviously wasn't very popular...no replies here, and no replies from a similar advert in Kit Car with a photo. I know this isn't the best forum to advertise a non-Caterham on, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback as to why this wouldn't sell. Is it simply the price (it's hard to value as there's so few around), or am I missing things from the advert that should be included. I'm no salesman...any feedback gratefully received! SLR69
Please take my comments as constructive criticism. This type of vehicle is of course very niche and will only interest a minority of buyers perhaps looking for something different. What would put some potential buyers off might be: - the looks which won't be to everyone's taste. - too small an engine. - needs some smart alloy wheels to replace the plain steel ones. - the colour, again not to everyone's taste; one of those colours you either love or loathe. - the unknown resale value. - perhaps the price - try starting at £2,995 as pyschologically it is under £3k and not over. - it is now the end of the summer and not a good time to sell; not as many interested buyers and prices drop. - many buyers will only buy known makes, e.g. Caterham, Westfield, etc. Personally having bought and sold cars on eBay, I would put it for sale on eBay with a sensible reserve and it will sell. Nick Green
Is the dwindledot (IIRC) forum still going ? That is/was Sylva oriented, isn't it ?
drB
again, just my opinion - certainly agree about the wheels - more photos around and inside the car (there's only 2 angles at the moment, the front and the side) - more information? bills / good things about the car / cheap to insure and run etc odd photos here
RossCarmichael
Thanks Stuart - useful tips, some of which I had taken into account (it went up for sale in July, originally!), but I will look at the changes and also look into eBay. I'll also look out for dwindledot, Nick. I'm not keen to spend too much on the car before selling it on, but if some of these changes are necessary to complete a sell and clear the garage then I'll bite the bullet! I think I'm also hesitant to sell as this is the one I built myself, and although I haven't driven it in a couple of years, it has a fond place in my heart...but the Caterham was always the dream...and now I'm living it! EFA
I am a salesman, and if ever there was a case to set something on fire and claim on the insurance, this could well be it. Sorry, not much else to say really. K2RUM - The car of two halves with no engine
EFA
Actually, you might have some success if you resprayed it a feminine shade, and advertised it in the Pink Pages. K2RUM - The car of two halves with no engine

EFA
Thats the joy of free speech Angus. Do you expect me to say I like it, when its quite obvious I don't? Or do expect me just to mute my opinions? K2RUM - The car of two halves with no engine
Westfield
Ross I would second the opinion on trying it on Ebay. Before you do though, spray the wheels with some wheel silver, black the tyres give it a good clean and most importantly take some good photographs. The more the better, chose the best ones and then add say 10 to an Ebay advert. Good luck. Click here to go to my web site!

caterhamnut
Well yes, it is free speech, and of course I can't, and wouldn't, argue against that, but why bother, in this particular case? In this particular case, yes - mute your opinions 😬 www.mycaterham.com here Videos here 96,000 miles -1st 1.6k Supersport, '95 Motor Show car

Wile7
Ross - all the above advice (other than the insurance related one) is very sound. Ebay will see your car 'marketed' to a larger audience. If the car is still unsold you might consider looking at doing this here. Your car might as well make some money if you still have it and you may find quite a lot of interest Also consider sending off an A4 'fact' sheet (pics and a brief history of build, choice of kit etc.) to several kitcar/specialist magazines that may wish to do a feature on the car/you/the build. I have not seen one before so maybe there will be quite a bit of interest out there. It will give you some added 'oomph' to the sale if you get a magazine article behind the car. Good luck Dave Ardley. White Xflow with Clams Don't point that beard at me, it might go off. Groucho Marx Updated photos here
Jason Plato
Ohhh please - all the PC nonsense aside, you cant deny its blooming ugly and orange and thats probably why no one wants to buy it . here is C7 TOP South Wales AO
EFA
Dave . My point precisely. I wonder if the reason for sale is simply that its so f*cking ugly he cannot live with it?? If you are going to put it on Ebay, I suggest a reserve of no more than £25. Wile7
*mad* Ooh bet you feel good now..... There is no denying that certain cars require certain taste (like orange coloured cars or carbon infested ones or white ones with clams )- but there is a time when you keep your opinions to yourself, irrespective of how much it offends your aesthetic eye. It's not about PC IMO but about manners. Folk who aspire to Caterham ownership start off somewhere (and we have all been there) so let us not try to put them off eh? The point of the posting was for a fellow member to seek advice of selling a product (hence the post in the 'for sale' thread) and not a smear campaign about the car. If the response is not positive think it but DO NOT post. It doesn't help and makes you look like someone who has crawled out from under an arrogance- breeding commune beneath a stone. Caterham owners have a certain 'superior' attitude in the eyes of many, and when you read comments like these it just enforces it. Sadly. Imagine painting a car orange AND green for example, and then pretending it has a zip down the middle, I mean, come on, how silly can you get? 😬 *tongue* Dave Ardley. jono
Sorry guys, I've been watching this thread and it reminded me of the Emperor's News clothes. I think Arnie and Dave are probably just saying what everyone else is actually thinking. Initially I thought it was a spoof thread
Jason Plato
I'm sorry if my contribution offended, but I realy thought it plainly obvious the reason the car didnt get any interest on the sites its been advertised was for the honest reason I gave above. Just because I said what I thought was honest and obvious, dont throw the "superior attitude " line at me was it not you and I that also laughed at the MR2 conversion to a F355 ...... here is C7 TOP South Wales AO Edited by - Dave Jackson on 5 Oct 2006 09:46:
caterhamnut
oh come on guys - it has nothing at all with being PC - don't bring that in and claim that you are 'railing against the increase in PC in this country' - its just about being friendly and polite, surely? Yes, it is orange. Yes, it is ugly - but Dave, you're Welsh, and Arnie you're fat. ok, ok - I'm only joking, and actually I'm fatter than you Arnie (I'm not welsh though ) but surely you see what I mean? If I am totally honest, when I saw this thread start I did wonder how long it would be until the inevitable started.... ...and to be fair I did create here a few years ago.... Actually, the bloke driving that car on the MSE track day was having ust as much fun as anyone else there, and had probably spent far less money than any of us in our overpriced kit cars But give Ross a break - he is trying to sell it. Anyway - calm down everyone - lets not have another sodding argument...Ross is a very nice chap who lives round the corner, I'm sure he will see the funny side of some of this, but no need to break into a name calling war! (even if I could be accused of helping it along 😳 😬) BTT for Ross and his jaffa... 😬 www.mycaterham.com here Videos here 96,000 miles -1st 1.6k Supersport, '95 Motor Show car Edited by - angus&tessa on 5 Oct 2006 10:41:
