Still a problem. - Performance Alloy wheels - UPDATE

I need some urgent help as I have a track day on Thursday and today is the only day that I can deal with this problem.

I have just got a pair of Performance Superlight wheels 8" x 13 108 PCD so OK so far.

They fit without any fouling so OK there as well.

The issue is that the holes for the wheel studs are quite a bit bigger than my standard wheels. The seats are conical on the wheel.

They supply nuts (17mm) that are about 3 mm smaller diameter on the outside of the conical seating face than my standard nuts (19mm) which I cant use as I cant get a socket into tighten them

I need to know if the larger diameter holes are an issue and has anyone else had the same problem.

An urgent help would be appreciated.

Grant, any chance of a photo of wheel, stud and nut. If the seating is wide enough and the stud isn't that much smaller than the hole than it may be OK.

However I would ring them with your stud diameter and ask them to confirm.

Spoken to Geo Polly (They did not supply them) and he says that they should be OK its just that they don’t centre as easily as the smaller holes. He mentioned that they sound like Group 4. Talking to SCA they also confirm that the wheel will be fine but that I need a spigot ring to help with the initial centring.

OK Panic over!!!! *eek* 😳 *eek* 😳

Thanks everyone!! *thumbup*

Grant, if they're OK then tighten one nut very gently and the do the opposit to centralise. If it's central the other two studs should be central to hole. Do nuts up slowly working to opposite sides.

Hi Norman, They centre once you position the nuts and lift the wheel to allow the first nut and then the opposite side to spin up. Once 2 are on the others as you would expect spint up OK.

I will see about this spigot ring tomorrow.

Ive had one of those days where I thought it was Tuesday!! Its because I played golf on Saturday and not on Sunday as usual!! 😳 😳 😳

Mmm. I’ve been down to a wheel specialist today and they are saying that the steel inserts are missing from the stud holes and that this is why they have so much play. ☹️

Seems that they need to be fitted before I can use them.

One hope is that the chap that I bought them from may still have them. I’ve also e-mailed the manufacturers in Australia asking if they can supply a set.

Finger Xed

PS Thank heaven for the internet. God knows how long I would have been waiting if I had to deal with this by post *eek*
