Radiator leak

Recommended Posts

During the Keevil track day last Monday I noticed that fluid was spraying on to the windscreen through the bonnet fins whilst on some of the faster corners. After quickly heading into the pits it looked like it was coolant leaking from the top corner of the radiator (the usual pink "hit by a paintball" effect). The car doesn't appear to be overheating (top temp of 95 degrees at full belt on the track, standard driving conditions sits comfortably at just over 80 degrees) and the coolant levels aren't visibly dropping so it looks like it is only a small leak.

This will be the first time I have tried to fix a radiator. What is the best option to check if/where there is a leak?

Pretty gutted as I had only just fitted a new sump that morning so its turning out to be quite an expensive track day!!

Thanks for the feedback.

Is this something that a specialist radiator place would need to do for me? Is it generally cheaper to get it fixed or should I start looking for a replacement (second hand or new). Had a quick look through the For Sale section and previous posts and it looks like a decent second hand one costs about £100 and a new one from CC is about £280.

All help much appreciated *smile*

Replacement from Caterham is £183.30 here. The race triple pass rad is £260. You can get a Radtec, which is what I have, for about £200 if you can wangle the discount we got on the bulk buy (no harm in asking).

Will get a quote and see what they say. I guess the risk is that they try and fix it, find out that they can't and charge me for the work and I still have to go out and buy a new one.

Did you get the radtec direct from the manufacturer or via CC?
