Tom_C
This here was in mu sump when I dropped it last night. Anyone got a clue where it should be, as I'm sure it shouldn't be floating in the oil. It's made of rubber and measures 11mm x 8mm by about 5mm deep. TIA. John Howe
Can confirm that it is not from inside the engine - well I've never seen the like inside a K Wonky's comment sound about right JH Deliveries by Saffron, the yellow 230bhp Sausage delivery machine
Tom_C
Then the real mystery is how it made its way into the sump. It appears unchewed, so clearly hasn't passed through the valve train. Ta anyway, I'll leave it out when I pop the sump back on. Cheers Tom FH54WLX - only the car supports ManU, honest! see here - UPDATED
Jason Plato
could have fallen through the valve train and into the sump if you have every taken the cam cover off 🤔
Tom_C
Nope, it's an Academy engine with the MSA seals in tact. I guess it may have been there since the engine was built, as the sump hasn't been off before. oldbutnotslow
I tend to agree. Normans_Ghost
Won't be the first foreign object left in an engine at assembly. I once found a spare oil pick pipe in a 20 year old XK engine that the sole owner said had never been stripped. Tom_C
Well, sump is back on, engine is filled with oil and seems to run sweetly with no obvious leaks. I guess it was just a random spare. Quite for a mechanical numpty like me though. Cheers Tom FH54WLX - only the car supports ManU, honest! see here - UPDATED

susser
Most Likely Hypothesis (IMHO) Cam cover is off. Something dislodges the seal from the female of an electrical connector (Injector, temp transmitter etc.) Seal falls into uncovered head. Etc etc. Suggest you disconnect the electrical connectors near the head and see if one has a missing seal.
Tom_C
Cam cover hasn't been off since engine was built, as all the MSA seals are in tact, so I've thrown it away and decided not to worry. Now if oonly the sump gasket wasn't leaking Cheers Tom FH54WLX - only the car supports ManU, honest! see here - UPDATED
