CHRIS CLARK
Simon. Did you see the Sunday times motoring section this week re. Vectras ?
Red SLR
No sorry I did not. What did it say... or do I not want to know?! X777CAT
Flying kiwi
Simon, I have the same car as you except it is a V reg and done 42000 miles, I was offered £8,000 last week for it. part x for a new car. If i sell privately i could possibly get nearer 9k. Mark.
Red SLR
I have had an offer of 9k cash but I turned it down. I paid 13999 for it just under 6 months ago and I am not willing to lose 5k in 6 months! Thats more than 1000ukp a month!!! sad.gif X777CAT
Flying kiwi
Simon, I paid 16 for mine two years ago, bloody cars there nothing but trouble. Mark.
Red SLR
I have put it in the Auto Trader at 11400, I think this is a very good price. Other GSis on there of that age are at the 12k mark. X777CAT
JKJ
Simon, Mate just had to part with his X plate Vectra 16,000 mls for £8000, private sale, best offer trade £7500 !! Take it while you can, it can only get worse, especially with the reviews they are getting.
CHRIS CLARK
Simon. I didn't want to distress you further as you hadn't read the article, but the others on here have made it fairly clear. Take that 9 grand quick. The reviews on the Vectra are awful, but at least the new one won't depress the 2nd hand prices too much 'cos it's awful too!!! Red SLR
Gee thanks. It might be a vectra but it can still do 150mph. teeth.gif X777CAT

TonyR
Brother in Law finally got rid of his X reg GSI(19000 miles) for £8500 (private sale). He thought it was never going to go. Tony. Edited by - tonyr on 24 Mar 2002 14:02:
Mark Piper
Blimey, makes for depressing reading, doesn't it! Could be worse, I've heard that the used price of Bentley Turbo Rs has halved in the last 12 months....just thought I'd make you feel better, Simon smile.gif
kenny.
Quite depressing the losses mainstream cars achieve in such a short time. I bought a new Rover 200 VI VVC (98R) for £16200 (INC. DISCOUNT) before new prices were re-jigged..........p/xed it for £6000 barely 2 years later, ouch!!!!!!!. Now buy second hand Mercs that have taken their first tumble and I am convinced this is a cheap form of quality tin top motoring..residuals are great unless it's an S Class. Kenny Nothing could beat my old HPC for price retention on a new car though Edited by - kenny on 24 Mar 2002 18:18:
Red SLR
Hmm, thanks guys... I had an offer of 10k today so it may well be gone tomorrow... I cant beleive he sold a GSi for 8500! Are you sure it was not an SRi? X777CAT
TonyR
Simon, It was a GSI. I,m sure it did not have FSH £8500 was better than any dealers offered. He bought a Citroen Xara!!! Good Luck with your sale. TonyR
Red SLR
Jeeez... thats not good. X777CAT
TonyR
Simon Just read todays Daily Mail it puts the Vectra at 69% depreciation over 3 years. The Xsara is 63%. I did try to advise the Brother in Law to avoid Citroen. In my opinion he should have kept the GSI for a couple more years. TonyR
Red SLR
69%,,, so if you spent 20k on the car at new 3 years down the line you will get about 6k back,,, great! X777CAT
Violet Elizabeth
It gets even better better over longer periods. Jaguar Sovereign, 9 years ago £35k, now under £4k. Nearly 90% depreciation. Good if you are buying though smile.gif
Red SLR
I was considering an XJ-R, 380bhp 45k super saloon for 14k, N plater with 80,000miles can be had for as little as 11k! Ver nice S reg 30,000 miles will be about 18k, amazing value for money. X777CAT
CHRIS CLARK
It does pay to let someone take the first 'hit'. My old Beamer (525 SE touring) was bought at exactly four years old to the day (tax benefit) with 57,000 miles on it for 14,500. Sold it three years and eight months later for 1,550 with 221,547 miles. Great car & I'd have had another if the taxman hadn't started on this Co. car road to hell! EFA
The guy I purchased my Range Rover from sold it 13 months old for £34,000 less than the combined cost of the car and finance charges. I've had it 4 years now and its lost less than your Vectra has since new Simon.... And the only repair I've ever paid for was a set of HT leads - £35 for all 9 from a LR dealer! Warranty is a bit pricy at £1100/year though.... I reckon it has cost me about 80p/mile inc. insurance, servicing, fuel etc. My Seven, based on a brief calculation has cost about double that!
