My parents chose to call me Laurence ... I've met several people who aren't keen on their own name and I'm one of them. Blatchat was one of the first web forums I joined - look at that, on the 7th of the 7th of 2001 - and I chose Peardrop for no other reason than a friend had earlier in the day compared the shape of my head to a ... peardrop. I wasn't sure what else to use. More recently my friends have begun calling me Rupert, which I kinda like. Someone I work with is called Jarvis, which is cool.
