Pembrey - News Report

I'm sure we can all think of a few headlines that might be (in)appropriate 😬:

"Local drivers trounced by opposition"

"Octogenarian competitors prove you're never too old to drive a Caterham"

You get the gist. Any more........

Well we were in the local Eve Post as promised. Isn't it funny how they can big things up. Here is approx 2/3rds of the text which was accompanied by a picture of yours truly at a trackday there last year.

The LOTUS SEVEN CLUB is the only UK motor club that devotes itself entirely to the Lotus and Caterham Seven. We are recognised by both Lotus and Caterham as the official enthusiast's club for Sevens, and we are affiliated to the MSA in order that we may promote competitive driving events.

The Caterham 7 formally the Lotus 7 will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year - making the car 3 years older than the original Mini and you can still buy new ones today.

The Pembrey sprint weekend will encompass both round 6 and 7 of the 2006 Sprint Championship, which has 13 rounds in all. The championship although remaining a true “club” event with all the social characteristics and camaraderie of motor sport competition has, over the past few years, developed into a highly competitive championship. Some of our members hold outright class and hill records around various circuits and hills in the UK.

For our double-header weekend at Pembrey we have the benefit of sponsorship by two local companies Towy Works Ltd, The Quay, Carmarthen and Olympic uPVC windows of Cross Hands. All our members appreciate their generous support. Both companies have also been assisting Simon Rogers a local member of the Lotus 7 Club from Porthyrhyd near Carmarthen. This year he has developed his “7” into a special world first. Fitted with an Elite Racing sequential gearbox mated to a PowerTec (Radical) PS1 pneumatic “paddle” shift system. The system allows Simon to change gear just as the Formula 1 driver would.

The club is both encouraging new competitors and Ladies to enter events and this weekend will see Fiona Rogers’s first event. In fact she is yet to drive the car even on the road. There will be 4 ladies competing at Pembrey in the Lotus 7 class.

The club has 26 entrants and will form by far the largest class on the weekend. Hopefully we can make this an annual invite by BARC Wales. Our thanks to the organising club.

And other breaking news is that I have also organised an air display for Saturday afternoon. It will not be of the truly "Low Flying" variesty a la Harewood but a puka aerobatic display. This should take palce between our first and second runs in the afternoon.

I'm not kiddin *thumbup*

Giving it some Welly.
