starting problem

Can any one help, my caterham has developed a problem starting, At Le mans when hot it would not start we would move black lead on solenoid and it would start so on Tuesday I changed solenoid, car is now worse occasionally starts first time as normal but most of the time it just clicks when turning the key if I keep turning the key it firers on the fifth or sixth click I have taken the starter to Lucas who say its fine

Change the connector on the solenoid side mostly there is a bad connection due to the heat inbetween the cable and connector.

I had the same problem. I tried putting a relay in, which made starting it a bit better. I took the started motor off and re-soldered the connections and gave it a good clean - this helped but every now and again it wouldn't start.

 

Last year my battery died, since replacing it I've not had the "click". I think I had a combination of problems - fingers crossed they won't come back.
