mikec23
Lack of concentration means i have overfilled the oil (yes have checked level when engine is on tick-over) What are the problems with having done this and how can i rectify it? rather not have to remove the sump plug, can i syphon from the apollo tank? oldbutnotslow
Engine overheating, loss of power, possibility of oil seal failure I don’t see how you can syphon anything out via the Apollo as the top hose connection is only about 2 mm in diameter. Its the Apollo drain plug I am afraid ☹️ Grant Taylor OBNS Motorsport 😬 183 BHP of Black and 'Stone Chip' excitement. 😬 here
mikec23
draining "some" from the engine sump plug and then refitting the plug in mid flow is not advisable then i guess?
CageyH
Sounds like a plan to me. How much have you overfilled it by?
mikec23
Embarrasingly, a little over a litre!
Mick Day
What is overfull? The Caterham manual says 6.5 litres but I've seen up to 7.5 litres recommended by others. If you have to drain some off put a clean tray under the sump & drain some off into here. Easier to do cold & also easier if you have a spare sump plug. sjmmarsh
If you have an apollo, you can try taking the temperature sender out instead. The oil seems to come out much more slowly from there and it (presumably) drains the apollo tank. Steve
mikec23
tks folks, drained last night, no probs. for those that didnt know the difference on the dipstick between min and max is only about 1/2 litre! hence the original overfill.
