SLR Exhaust at castle Combe

Does anyone have any experience of running an SLR with standard 4:1 6inch silencer at Castle Combe? Various people have offered advice on this, including Andy Checkley who said:

"The new 7" is a Caterham race silencer, which I have been able to stretch the 6" silencer guard around as Caterham don't make a guard for this. It looks ok and hopefully will reduce the noise a bit. I am down at Goodwood again shortly so I will post the new noise level at 6,000rpm."

Andy - I'd be very interested to know how you got on - or if anyone else has practical experience. Castle Combe is 100dbA at 3/4 revs....Many thanks.

Several of us here in the Bristol group have had problems at Castle gloom , but it has mainly been VX's and xflows that have failed .

I dont know of any SLR's that have failed running 6 or 7" silencer .

Most come out at around 96-99 db .

Induction noise can be a killer if they do the drive by tests .

You should be ok with a std induction set up inside the bonnet .

- Be conservative in your 3/4 revs wink.gif

Gus,

Two thoughts:

Pop down to Castle Combe and get it checked out.

When you are tested, make sure the engine is hot and been running for a while, dip the clutch and rev slowly and smoothly to the requested level - probably 4500 rpm.

If you are too noisy you may need a new silencer, or it could be re-packed.
