While I've got the engine out it crossed my mind to change to a lightened flywheel at the same time. Anyone got any thoughts or experiences before and after such a change, is it worth over two hundred quid? Car is used for track days and occasional blasts on the road. I agree with Simon regarding your question, its also made it much more eager to rev. Overall the whole package has completely transformed the car. timbo Posted January 29, 2002 Share Posted January 29, 2002 I took a different route & got a specialist engineering firm to lighten and balance the flywheel, crank and clutch assembly. (I had a couple of old cranks lying around which suited for balancing purposes). std weight 6.5kg. lightened weight - 5.5kg a reduction of 15% (1 kg) I know it is not much but at £50 + vat it was reasonable value. I fitted it myself with some good advice from Tony Martyr. I have a 1.8 k s/s 6 speed & the engine seems to pull & rev a lot better. If you are going to invest much here go for a smaller race clutch assy at the same time. Flying kiwi Posted January 30, 2002 Share Posted January 30, 2002 Chris & Tin man, thank`s for the reply, I will do the same and get 4-2-1 exhaust as I`ve been told it increases the bhp marginally!, even better if you fit an emerald ecu, again so I`ve been told.
