skimcoat Posted January 29, 2002 Share Posted January 29, 2002 I am considering installing a sierra 5 speed in a short cockpit, live axle,series 3 twin cam chassisi. What are, if any, space constraints? Does anyone make a transmission mount adapter? Also, I want to put the front suspension pick-up points in double shear. Can anyone shed some insight. R2D2 Posted January 29, 2002 Share Posted January 29, 2002 I have an '89 short cockpit car with a Twin Cam and an Escort Sport box.# I looked at fitting a 5 speed Sierra box last year but decided that the tunnel mods needed were too involved and didn't bother. Not only is the gearbox mounting in the wrong place but the tunnel isn't wide enough. I think later chassis may be different but I am not too sure. skimcoat Posted February 1, 2002 Author Share Posted February 1, 2002 I dry assembled the block and bell housing into the car. The latter barely clears the foot box.
