StewartG
Why does the five speed gearbox give so many problems mostly associated with the synchros and balk rings? My Ford 'box has been rebuilt twice and a friend's Quaife one is on it's third rebuild. Surely the transmission cannot be highly stressed it was designed for a Sierra so is it our driving 'style'? are we too rough with it? would a Caterham six speed 'box give less problems? do steel balk rings cure all? is a Quaiffe dog box with or without sequential shift the route to happiness? Rob Morris
My5 speed box died at 3,500 miles! Talk with james whitting, Road & race and SPC comp's. These boys know what they are talking about. I have swopped mine for an SPC semi-helical box £1200 and it is the greatest improvment to date.
