Small Heater radiator

I am rebuilding the heater on my car to save some weight and to reposition it slightly inside the car. I am looking for a really small heater radiator that should be no more that six or seven inches in its longest dimension. The Caterham one is about an inch too long for my needs. I have looked through a catalogue of these but unfortunately it didn't give dimensions. To save me taking a punt an just ordering up what I think may be a small one, does anyone know of a car with a heater radiator of such small dimensions ?

I have no idea of a car that may have one to the size you want, but you could give Pace a call...

These guys build all sorts of bespoke radiators and I'm sure would be able to do this.

It wouldn't be as cheap as getting one from a scrapper etc though.

What else are you changing to lighten it? Which bits are the heaviest on the std. unit? I've occasionally wondered if you couldn't use other heat sources to warm things up (e.g. ducting from near the exhaust etc) rather than water.

Andy, Thanks I know Pace well, as I bought my cars Radiator from them and got them to quote me for a one off rad for my car, but I was trying to avoid spending wedge on a bespoke heater unit, but it may yet come to that. I am currently running a home made heater that weighs 5KG inc water. I have just bought a used Caterham upright box type one that weighs about 4.5kg. However, when you just take the motor and the heater matrix full of water they only weigh about 1.5 kg, the rest is the case. I know I can get the weight down to about 2 kg all in if I fit the Caterham mechanicals into my current home made ali case. I just need a smaller matrix, but I will find one I am sure.

Yep, I think there has been a further refinement in their heaters, I think the very latest ones have been slimmed down. My car being an older car cannot run with these without a new bonnet as they feed through bonnet louvres, and when I built my car I set it up to have the heater on the nearside, with the air feed from under the scuttle, hence the need to make a one off unit
