Markymark
All of a sudden I have a reading odf 8 on my oil pressure gauge rather than 5. I suspect it might be the sensor. Any pointers as to where i can find the sensor and any advice to solve? Clean/replace etcThanksMark
Member Jonathan Kay Posted August 28, 2018 Member Share Posted August 28, 2018 Have you got the appropriate wiring diagram (let me know if you want one) and a multimeter? All other instruments working normally?Previous discussions.Jonathan
Area Representative Iain McCallum Posted August 29, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted August 29, 2018 Hi Mark,I had similar issues with my Sigma oil pressure gauge reading erratically, so i ordered a new sender from Redine (Danfoss 1350) but i found that the connector to the chassis wiring was not making good contact, so i cleaned it, pushed it back together, and covered with insulating tape. Worked perfectly ever since! You can find it under the inlet throttle bodies just by the oil filter.Iain
Markymark
Thanks IainThat looks like my first port of call! I will try this this evening. Will also check if other gauges are reading funnily as well.CheersMark
micksmetafors
I changed mine using the Stack mechanical and sandwich plate adaptor from Merlin. Quite easy and accurate/reliable I think.Cheers, Steve

The_ASH
JK - A lot of the info for Danfrost (as someone at work used to call them) is online, I think this is the info for the transducer here http://products.danfoss.co.uk/productrange/documents/industrialautomation/pressure-transmitters/mbs-1350-oem-pressure-transmitter-with-dual-output-and-pulse-snubber/#/
Member Jonathan Kay Posted August 29, 2018 Member Share Posted August 29, 2018 Ah... I remember identifying those (and the discussion of snubbing) but thought that it was as a replacement rather than the original.Jonathan
The_ASH
Cheers, I’d forgotten that thread even though I’d commented on/in it.I may be repeating myself but wish something similar existed to replace the K Series sender (which is expensive oem and not fantastic) and avoid changing to a capillary gauge. Markymark
Hi Ian I have located the above sensor and lead on the car. See pictures below. The one above is where the sensor is in the engine. I am assuming you cleaned the electrical contacts here rather han the connection to loom in picture two - I am guessing you are going to say both!CheersMark
Markymark
Thanks Iain for your help by PM the actual Fault was the sub loom. I changed this and the gauge now reads between 2 and 4 bar. Not replacing the sensor it’s self as “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!”
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 10, 2018 Member Share Posted September 10, 2018 Well done.Did you localise the fault with a meter before swapping?ThanksJonathan
Area Representative Iain McCallum Posted September 10, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted September 10, 2018 Mark didn't have a meter but suggested the sub loom as this nearly mirrored my Sigma oil pressure issue.Glad it is fixed now Mark!Cheers Iain
Markymark
As Iain stated I did not and do not have a multimeter. Instead of going down the route of buying a meter, a box spanner and maybe some loctite thread locker (not sure on this last thought) I took the approach of replacing the easiest part first- the pluggable sub-loom. Luckily for me this appears to have fixed the problem. 10 minute job which included removing the old one and securing the new one with cable ties.According to Iain and on inspection ( I can see where he is coming from) I also saved some skin on my knuckles as it is a right bugger to get to. Also I am apprehensive of screwing anything into the engine block in case I cross thread it! Location on the Sigma would suggest this is not an unlikely scenario for amateur like me!Mark

My oil gauge is reading max without the engine running! Do you have the wiring diagram? Let me know if you need a copy. The gauge is earthed with other instruments to a pillar behind the dash. But the circuit that connects the gauge to the sender works by the sender offering a variable resistance to a local earth. `Does your sender have one or two terminal? Any recent work on the car? Start with inspecting the connections to the sender... how many terminals, what colour are the wires, and are all the connections intact? I assume the body of the sender earth to the engine block. Sounds like feed to the gauge is going to earth somewhere. This could be in the wiring or a faulty sender. Alan Clark
Thanks for the response. The car is a 3 year old 270s assembled by myself. Less than 5k on the clock. The sender connections seem good and the gauge connections seem ok. All other gauges are working fine and the car performs well.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 23, 2023 Member Share Posted December 23, 2023 1 Ignition ON but engine not running 2 Is the gauge still reading full scale? 3 Remove the connection at the sender... what happens to the indication on the gauge? BigCol
The sensor is apparently susceptible to damage through engine vibration which is why many folk recommend fitting a remote adaptor so the sensor can be isolated (see one of my list of winter jobs!)
