niceboyjohn
Hello all,First, big thank you to the club already for making me feel welcome. I'm a new member and look forward to becoming involved in the club. I've come to ask for some know how on fitting gauges. I have a sigma engined caterham that I bought from someone who used it to race with the graduates in the sigmax class. It has a water temp gauge which, until recently, was working well. Recent track day and it would just show top of the gauge. Have been advised to try replacing sensor but I don't know where the gauge takes the signal from. It is a standard caterham gauge. The other gauge I'm trying to sort out is a mechanical oil pressure and temp from racetech. It comes with the sensor for the temp and a capillary tube for the oil pressure.Does the temp just replace the sump plug or do I need to find a sump plug that will allow it to pass through into the sump?Where does the oil capillary tube go? It seems as though I need an additional fitting but I don't know what it is or where it would go. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've searched a fair bit but haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Many thanks for any help or pointing me in the right direction.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 21, 2022 Member Share Posted July 21, 2022 WelcomeWould you like an Assembly Guide with the wiring diagrams? Please send me a Private Message with your email address. You can start working out what's what from the wiring colours. Caterham usually followed the British "standard" colours. And do you already have a multimeter?Jonathan

niceboyjohn
Many thanks for the swift reply Jonathan.I'll do as you suggest and see how the gauge reacts. No, I do not own a multimeter. I can borrow/purchase one but I'll have to do a bit of learning as I don't really understand a lot (if anything) about how it functions.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 21, 2022 Member Share Posted July 21, 2022 Current recommendation: Draper 41818. That has lots of functions that you'll never use, but it's worth getting one with an audible continuity buzzer. The temperature probe is also fun on the Seven.Jonathan
niceboyjohn
Thanks for all the help so far.I used the guide to see where the water temp sensor should go but my 7 doesn't have a heater so seems not to have the pipe that is shown. Hmmm. The gauge wiring does follow the wiring colours but I can't find the wiring in the engine bay. Any ideas? I've ordered the multimeter for future shenanigans. Amos91
The coolant temp sensor is below the coilpack, bulkhead side on a Caterham.
niceboyjohn
Amos, Thank you for the reply. I've been away (from home and all things car related) for a few weeks. I think I've located it, it just looks different to the one that I had ordered (two wires rather than one). I'll get testing and see what happens. Many thanks for your reply.
