Dirty Den
Popped into my local auto factors on the way home from work and after changing coolant hoses over the weekend, I thought I might as well replace the expansion bottle cap as well - so I asked for a cap that would be from a Rover 216/416. I've been given a Quinton Hazell part, so I assume that's the original OE Rover part. It's a bit taller than the one already fitted to the car (QH part is the yellow one in the pic here) and the nose cone won't sit down properly because of the height of the cap. Can anyone else suggest a part number for a replacement cap? Mr Locust
Rover engined cars have two different types of tank fitted. Is it flat (ish) or spherical? Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Dirty Den
Hi Ian - It's spherical. Den http://www.dens7.co.uk
Mr Locust
Ah ha! Same as mine then. From the random scribblings on my garage wall.................(by it's cold out)...... Cap MG Rover PCD 100160 Tank Landrover PCF 101360 I seem to remember it was Rover 25 (we had one) and the Landrover part presumably means petrol engined Freelander? Happy hunting Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Mr Locust
The one on my car is black by the way. Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Myles
Oh, and if one of my local Rover dealerships is anything to go by, they'll suggest (or maybe you should) popping next-door to the service-bay for them to test it before you walk away. Surprisingly-high failure-rate off the shelf, apparently. Project Scope-Creep is underway... Dirty Den
Thanks guys, that's great. I'll pop to the Auto Factors to try and get the right cap Cheers, Den http://www.dens7.co.uk
Dirty Den
Hmm, popped into the Auto Factors this evening, explained that the part they gave me isn't suitable and tried the part numbers above. Unfortunately they all cross reference to the same part they gave me previously. Got a refund and will try my local Rover dealer or Caterham. Jason Plato
Get the cap tested before you fit ! these have a very poor history of reliability and can cause serious engine problems if they are not capable of holding pressure . It was said that Rover dealers are now instructed to pressure test each cap sold .
