Sinjen
Hi allFeel a little silly asking this question so apologies in advance.Have bought 4 new NGK BCPR7ES plugs, the main coils on cyl 1 and 3 have gone back on neatly but 2 and 4 are now sitting proud having "clipped" in (approx 7mm proud).I bought the 3330 variant having followed advice on a well known suppliers website but I'm now thinking I should've gone for the 1272 and that they have a slightly shorter overall length. Can anyone confirm this or point out that I've done something very stupid before I shell out for another set?Cheers in advanceEU3 1.6 K Series

SM25T
Very odd. Are you sure they are pushed home properly.
Sinjen
Pretty sure they are, putting a fair amount of weight into it, I just get the 1 seating "click". The plugs that came out were the OEM champion nlp100290 jobbies, they measure 5mm less overall length. Thread dia, length etc are the same as these NGK's, the extra length comes from the top half of the plugs...
SM25T
Sounds like you have answered your own question.
Sinjen
No not really, my original question was, are the 1272 variants a shorter length? This, before I buy a set and find out that they too are too long. Cheers.
revilla
Following as I've also seen this on VVC engines with BCPR7ES (3330).
SM25T
Could they be copy plugs from an unknown source ?
revilla
Mine were from Euro Car Parts so should be genuine.
Sim
Why would 1 &3 fit differently to 2&4 - surely the fit is going to be the same on all? (I've an EU2 , so don't understand the subtleties of EU3) Simon
John Vine
Have you tried swapping pairs 1+3 and 2+4 to see whether the problem moves with them?JV
revilla
1 & 3 have a coil pack on top of them. The spring contacts on these will probably just be a bit more compressed than usual.2 & 4 then have flying leads which sit proud. It's a wasted spark setup with one coil driving two plugs. John Vine
Thanks for that, Andrew. I'd carelessly assumed that all connectors were the same! (Blame my EU2 heritage.)JV
John Vine
Re #8:The latest NGK spark plug catalogue (2017/18) lists BCPR7ES (3330) as an alternative to the recommended BCPR7E (1272), so I would hazard a guess that they have the same overall dimensions. Sinjen
Thanks guys, it's a little confusing. Got these from Opie oils so I'd imagine they are genuine. I'll do some ringing around tomorrow and will report back if anything comes of it.
p.mole1
You could try spraying a little bit of WD40 into each cap first, sometimes they can stick a bit
Sinjen
Had an email conversation with the ever helpful Dave Andrews and his feedback was that providing the leads are located on the ferrules securely and the coil cover is in place it shouldn't be a problem. The VVC head has 12mm longer leads so would potentially sit proud even more. If worried about movement of the leads then a spacer can be made up from HD foam.I did manage to push the leads down a few mm more with the help of some WD40 (cheers p.mole) and more leverage, so they're sitting 5mm proud now which I'm ok with. Having done some measurements, the plugs should fit fine with 1mm spare, I think the problem is more to do with the tightness of internal ferrule locating tubes (oi oi), maybe over time they'll loosen a tad.
