Wrightpayne
I'm in the process of installing a bell tank to replace the easy clean as I need my heater and long footwell back! I acquired a new bell tank a while ago but it needed the lower oil feed fitting which I obtained from Caterham. Unfortunately the two O rings are no longer stocked (but the fitting is currently in the clearance section)https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/1285-filter-union-58-x-58qbsp-rover-dry-sump.html?search_query=DrY+sumo&results=96So, with the help of two of my engineering competent friends (RJ and MAR7) we worked out the sizing for the O ring. Valley in fitting is 17.5mm dia. And bore in bell tank is 20mm.O ring needed is 17.17mm x 1.78.

D Jones
Wrightpayne,Do you (or anyone else) have a drawing of all the components for the bell housing tank or full dry sump system as i am trying to assemble all the parts for a future dry sumped engine.Where does the lower oil feed fitting go, is it in the bottom of the bell tank? I will have to get one ordered up whilst they are in the Caterham clearance section!
Wrightpayne
I have a write up for the remote tank install written by Steve Tourle, which has the parts list. If you send me a PM with your email address I'll ping it over.RegardsIan
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted December 24, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted December 24, 2020 "Where does the lower oil feed fitting go, is it in the bottom of the bell tank?"I'm not entirely sure which connection you're referring to, but there's a gauze filtered connection in the bottom of the belltank to which a braided hose connects, the other end of the braided hose connects to the inlet at the front of the sump (no filter). This front connection links directly to the o/e oil pressure pump.Stu.
7 wonders of the world
I would look for seal in Viton rather than Nitrile as the upper temperature range is better suited, Nitrile is only safe to just over 100 degrees C which you will exceed,Viton can handle beyond 200 degrees C
rj
Which grade of Viton are you refering to?

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 6, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted January 6, 2021 On a similar subject ... does anyone know the specification of the o-ring that seals the blue plate at the bottom of the belltank? Currently out of stock at Caterham.Stu.
Wrightpayne
Is there one? On the two bell tanks I have neither has a groove. I thought just stuck on with RTV sealant?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 6, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted January 6, 2021 From memory the groove is in the blue plate, it's intended to be removed at each oil change so wouldn't usually be sealed with RTV, although mostly I use a Pela oil extractor and suck the oil out from the top. The plate's been in place for so long that if I remove it I'm going to need a new seal!Stu.

Wrightpayne
Do you think Darren would give you the spec if you called? You can get O ring making kits with a mitre block and splicing glue. Just need to know the cross section diameter
Jonathan H
The groove is in the bell tank, the blue plate is flat.

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 7, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted January 7, 2021 Thanks Neil, and my understanding is Viton is the preferred way to go. We just need to work out the dimensions now.I recall Madonna at some point telling us to get into the groove so I've stayed that way Stu.
