Adrian Elkin
Saturday, 14th December 1.30pm, Coulsdon, Surrey I've had this on the back burner for some time now so it's with great relief that I can now say that we have an event organised. Andy Belcher, a Surrey Area member, has volunteered his garage business premises in Coulsdon, Surrey to act as a venue for an afternoon's introduction to basic Se7en maintenance for novices. The idea is to have 3 cars on show, Ford Crossflow, Rover K-series and Vauxhall 2-litre XE to instruct 30 club members on how to perform basic maintenance on the Caterham 7. Areas to be covered include: - Safely jacking up a car with correct jack and axle stand location Checking of Gearbox and Differential oil levels and awareness of impending failure (noises to listen for) Checking of suspension and steering parts, bushes, bearings, etc., for play, wear etc. Checking and changing of brake pads front and rear, and changing of brake fluid. Checking and changing of coolant. Basic engine maintenance; oil and filter change (make aware of the gauze in the sump; K & Vx), spark plug maintenance, air filter condition, and setting up of Webber DCOE carburettors. Good tyre maintenance; the importance of pressures, checking wear etc. There will be an opportunity to ask specific question's after all the basics have been explained to those present. If interested, please fill out and send back the form below ASAP whereupon I'll be in touch to confirm your place and provide directions to the venue. A £5 contribution to NTL will be levied for the day. For enquiries email myself, Adrian Elkin on surreyao@hotmail.com. TomGaval
Adrian, any possibility of the session being videoed and copies being made available. Tom
Adrian Elkin
I'll see what I can arrange but at this moment in time, no. There maybe future sessions depending on the success of this one however. And perhaps someone will organise an event up north? Adrian
TomB
An up North (well north of Birmingham) would be great. There are some topics I would like to attend (gearbox , diff oils, brake pad & disk stuff) but Surrey is too far to go for only a couple of topics. fireblade
Adrian, Great idea. You have one more mechanical muppet to add to the list. I can't see the form you're referring to. Is it in LF? I've just moved house and don't have the latest issue. FWIW, I'll be bringing along a live axle Fireblade engined car. puremalt
Adrian, would really like to attend, but am away that w/end. Is this plan one that each area can adopt?
Adrian Elkin
Yep sure is. I don't have exclusive rights on this idea at all. Anybody is welcome to organise a similar event for their particular area. Regretfully, I've just received word that the event is now full. Considering the success I'm sure we will organise another soon so please continue to send in your applications (page 32 of the Nov 02 Low Flying) to participate and you will automatically be put forward for the next event. Adrian Elkin
Just come back from a trip away. As Geoff says, if you're interested in the event (David L, jackal, dudley cramp) I'm sure we will organise another soon (no dates yet) so please continue to send in your application (page 32 of the Nov 02 Low Flying) to participate, with a note saying that you know it is full but would like to be listed for the next one, and minus payment and you will automatically be put forward. With the way things stand at the moment though, that's looking full too so we'll be onto a third... Regards Adrian
