FIA roll bar - will it fit?

Tim,

No it won't fit. The live axle rear damper mounts protrude throught the boot top where the FIA bar would slot in. Also the rear mounting points where the rear 'legs' of the FIA bar are lower on the live axle car than the DeDion.

I haven't compared the angles, so not sure (but I seem to recall that it was more angled forward than my original non-FIA roll bar).

It has the diagonal and the petty strut. It looks like a standard FIA roll bar, except that the 'uprights' are a little longer.

I believe that Caterham supply these for tall peolpe and/or to achieve the necessary clearance above a helmet for racing (or track days).

I bought it not realising it was a tall variant and consequently my hood wouldn't fit. So I then bought a standard height FIA roll bar, which is now fitted and thus my tall one is going spare.

The FIA bars (for both LA and DD) are more sloping and anglular to the front. Presumably its something to do with stresses required to do its job! The LA bars are even more sloping than a DD so this might be something to do with the longer rear legs (or the fact that the fitting is lower in the boot area than a DD one). The tall bar is approximately 2" higher than a standard FIA bar to cater for taller drivers. It is possible to fit a standard hood over a tall bar but its not a pretty fit and you don't need the hood sticks - alright in an emergency though!
