Alex Birtwisle
Does anyone know what this should be? S713UMY 1.8K Viper Blue
Jason Plato
102 C rings a bell ?? off at 100C . If you think its not working simply short the two wires together that are on the sensor at top rear of radiator , the fan should cut in . dave
Graham Sewell
And then fit an over-ride switch via a relay Low tech luddite - xflow and proud!

Chelspeed
Mine was nowehere near 102, it kicked in at 92 and off at about 88. It was also stamped 92 on the side if I recall correctly, VW Polo part I believe.
alicat
Mine is no where near 100deg C when it cuts in. But then it could be knowing how really accurate Caterham gauges are
scooby dooby doo
but the sensor for the gauge is half a cooling system away from the fan sensor. And I wouldn't trust the gauge that much either... HOOPY 500 kg R706KGU
Area Representative Richard Price Posted November 14, 2002 Area Representative Share Posted November 14, 2002 I've just looked at a failed switch that I replaced a few months ago. It has "92-87" moulded into the plastic. "ON" at 92° and "OFF" at 87° ?
Alex Birtwisle
The VW ones have a 85C/95C temp range. S713UMY 1.8K Viper Blue
alicat
Who cares ❗ ❗ So long as the engine is clearly not overheating, and it is running well, whats the problem 🤔 As myself and others have said, the temperatures gauges are not scientific instruments, and neither is the fan sensor, so why get hung up on what the gauge says and when the fan cuts in 🤔 I know my gauge reads anywhere between 80 and 85ish deg C. I also know if I leave it ticking over on the drive the fan cuts in well before the red. No problem
scooby dooby doo
Alex cares cos his is broken, so the fan ain't coming on, so its overheating... HOOPY 500 kg R706KGU
Alex Birtwisle
Not sure if Alicat had worked that bit out Hoopy! 😬 I cunningly left it out of the first post as to confuse him I have the replacment now and I am happy ❗ S713UMY 1.8K Viper Blue

Chelspeed
It was important to me as I changed from a switch in the radiator to an ECU controlled fan so needed to know what to set the software to to put the fan on and off. Chose 95 on and 90 off in the end and it all behaves much as before. Note that this is using the probe by the thermostat rather than temp in the radiator. I guess that by this sort of temp the stat is fully open so the two behave similarly.
Alex Birtwisle
Hoopy, I am an optomist. It fits and works fine even though it is still in its box in the boot of my car ❗ Am I correct in thinking that I would have to change my ECU if I wanted to switch the fan from it?
