Big Brother
I have been having trouble setting the mixture on my 1700 crossflow. I follow the usual procedure but its not always easy to hear the revs change as the engine always sounds a little "cammy". As a result of the pretty poor fuel consumption lately I have decided to treat myself to a Gunsons colortune. This will give me an excuse to "nip out to the garage" when its dark 😬 Has anyone used one and are thet as good as the adverts say? Also, can anyone tell me which version/size I need to get. There are a few different sizes and I'm not sure of the size of my sparkplugs. ADVthanksANCE Steve Se7en-Up! Less is more!
Sheds Moderator
Always used to work in the 80s, go for it. XFs + carbs should be well suited to a Colortune IMO, FWIW.
prs
I used one of these back in the mid 70's (showing my age) on my Mark 1Escort Mexico set up with twin forties. Was dead easy to use and she always ran spot on. Cheap but very effective way to set up, especially when trying to achieve a decent tickover from what I can remember. Graham Sewell
If you are in the Reading area, you can borrow mine! Low tech luddite - xflow and proud!
Alan L
Like Phil (PRS) I used to use one for my Mk1 Mex (glad to see there are a few ex-owners out there) and my mates Mk1 1300E and had good results. Admittedly both cars where on single carbs. Not had need to use on Caterham yet. If I remember there was a similar question only a few weeks ago. Welcome to borrow mine if you want to try before you by. I am in the Harrow, North west London, if any good. (Work not far from Heathrow.) Alan and his Yellow and Green BDR. Big Brother
Cheers guy's. Seems to be the way to go. Graham, I may take you up on your offer - I'm in Yateley, so not too far away. I am all over the place for the next few days with work but will mail you direct to try to arrange a suitable time/date. Do you ever get over to the North Hants meetings at the Phoenix? Thanks again Steve Se7en-Up! Less is more!
