Engine upgrade
This is the first blog I have ever done so it probably be a bit of a mess.
The second hand engine was in excellent condition and I could have just dropped it in. Because the standard pistons are a bit weak and I intend to use it for track days I decided to upgrade the pistons on a budget! . I sourced a second hand set of VVC 160 pistons with new rings from DVA along with gaskets etc. This soon adds up!, the cylinder head was standard but exhaust valve were shot, full of pits. Oily hands came to the rescue with a set of second hand refaced valves.
I have a Janspeed cylinder head with solid tappets but I can't use it unless I fit solid tappet cams, bugger, so I cleaned up the combustion camber, and valve throats on the standard head and fitted a set of second hand VVC tappets with Super sport cams.
One thing I hadn't considered on my 1.4 was injectors so managed to get a set of higher capacity blue VVC injectors and a set of cream injectors.
The new engine is like chalk and cheese compared to my 1.4 I think the throttle bodies and exhaust were just too large and I wasn't getting the best from it.
I just need to get it on to a rolling road it should be good for about 150 bhp ?
