Light at the end of the tunnel!
The new calipers arrived and were duly fitted, no dramas there apart from getting brake fluid over everything! Ian came over to help bleed them with his EziBleed, a brilliant tool! It took some time to get a good pedal feel, as, unbeknownst to us, all by spannering and pillockness had caused some air bubbles to work their way up really quite high! All sorted now though, and it now feels reasonably firm. I do think I need a race master cylinder though...!
The prop got regreased too, and, assuming the new gear lever bearing comes through the post today, I will be test driving tonight... The nerves! My biggest worry is only the geometry, which I have only really checked by eye! We shall see how it handles later. I will probably check the ride heights too, as all the work might have changed a couple of things, and the shocks have been on and off alot too.
Aside from the rebuild, I have been looking into other weight saving options. I found a company on the web who sell plastic bearings claiming maintenance free, long life, lube free, all the buzzwords! If they can make an alternative to the steel one in the gear lever, not only could you eliminate the rust problem, but also save a good few grams!
In the meantime though, they have sent me a couple of their linkages that might be suitable and lightweight replacements for the anti-roll bar droplinks on the rear, which Jake will be testing for me (as I have no rear ARB!). We don't think they will be strong enough though...
