Back in the garage!
So I finally managed to get some work done on the car! I started with very little direction - I really had no idea what I wanted to do today, so I started by trying to glue my fog light lens back together. It didn't work.
Since I was at that end of the car, I decided to tackle the rear. I still had to fit the screws that hold the FIA bar from underneath, so it was off with the shocks and in with those. A little bit of a struggle, but it was easier if the top fixings were removed first. They were all torqued up, the shocks replaced, and now I am (supposedly) safer!
There was a thread recently about 'squat', and it mentioned that the trailing arms should be parallel to the ground to reduce this, and also to give a firmer ride. For some reason, CC recommend only the upper mounting for road use, and the lower mounting, although there, had no hole in the cockpit for the fixings. So I whipped the seats out, had the wings off (one took a while as a rivnut started spinning - I just pulled it out in the end...), and waved the drill at the aluminium until a hole roughly the right size appeared! The fixings were a tad tight, but nothing a hammer couldn't fix. I had to butcher the wings slightly to fit around the new position, but with the arms in the lower position, they are more parallel than before - only testing will show if it's an improvement!
Seats back in, and, since I have the drill out, I thought I'd fit the petty strut! I drilled a few rivets, and found the bush - two pilot holes later, and I attack it with a big bit. I'm a little off so there's a bit of manipulation to open it out a touch. Three bolts later and the strut is on. Nice and easy!
On to the steering arms at the other end... Cracking the taper on the balljoints was going to be a struggle. It took me half an hour to do the first one, but once I'd mastered the G-clamp technique, the second took a few minutes! Whipped those off, and bagged them.
Decided to leave it there for the day, as it was dark by now, and I was hungry! I need to figure out the best way of drilling out the steering arms to take EFA's kit; I'm not feeling overly confident about it...
