Caterham SUV

The standard coilovers on the Caterham do the job well enough. They compress, they rebound, they damp. But they're not adjustable in the slightest, and that means the car is as high as they want to be, and the weight is distributed as they see fit.

To improve handling, ground clearance and weighting, adjustable platforms can be fitted at each corner - compression and rebound remain unadjustable, but it's a good start.

I managed to pick up the platforms at a Freestyle garage sale - score - and SM25T helped me to fit them one morning.

I had tried to fit them myself before, but ending up rounding off a bolt in the front wishbone, and spent the whole day at 7 Indulgence letting them fix it.

Take two saw a more 'Heath Robinson' approach to compressing the coils, but fitting was relatively pain free. Cue running around the car with a jack to adjust the car to a reasonable height, and get the car level with me in it! Excellent fun, if a little tedious after a while, but the result was worth it - the car feels more balanced, and I don't hammer the lumps and bumps in my track any more!

Thanks Ian!
