The standard roll over bar that comes with the car is good for maybe a short person. I am, however, 6'3", and that meant that my head stuck over the top of the roll bar. Knowing that in a crash, should the car roll I would lose my head, I thought it time to get something a little taller, and more robust. I could also get an FIA approved bar to allow me to participate in club trackdays and sprints (if I can actually save up enough to go!).

Caged were kind enough to agree to make me a one off bar to my spec. I measured up, decided that I needed extremely tall, and sent off the details. A few weeks later, when they were delivering some bits to CC Dartford, they dropped off my new bar. I fitted it, stood back, admired my handywork, and realised something was wrong.

I measured up, and sure enough, the bar was too tall! It also sloped so much that the diagonals ran over the top of the seats, meaning that in an impact, your head would be mercilessly crunched. Probably safer not to have a bar at all!

Caged took this all on board, and made me a new one - this time the right height - and made it vertical too, giving me loads of clearance above and behind my head.

The new bar looks, erm, a little ungainly on such a car, but it's a small price to pay for potentially saving your life.

I also managed to pick up a new style side impact bar, and popped down to the factory to grab the fixings. Locating the forward boss was interesting... Using a scientific method involving a G-clamp, marker pen, and electric drill with assorted bits, I managed to locate it! Bolted on and ready to go, I now feel super safe surrounded by what is probably the car's weight in scaffolding!

I still need to fit the petty strut, so that I can go track the car and sprint, but the G-clamp is ready and waiting - I just need to find the time!
