Dampers

700newtons

I put in the front dampers today and caught up on the RHS.

I also torqued up the bolts specified in the instructions. However, the top damper bolt was inaccessible for the torque wrench (and my ingenuity) so I did my best guess at 20Nm after practising with the torque wrench.

After setting bolts to the correct tension I gave them a dab of tippex (to reduce OCD paranoia at the end).

I wanted to put upright attachments in today. However, I think I'm missing a 1/2" nyloc nut that should be on the bottom of the upright. I'll contact Caterham tomorrow.

Looking good Simon, liking the colour choice too, be interesting to see it take shape. How did the Dinatrol application go in in the end of your prep phase?

Thanks. I used Dimitrol before anything went into the car (lots of newspaper on the garage floor to prevent a mess). I may have gone a bit over the top in the engine bay, but you can get right in all the nooks if you do it before anything else.

Where did you eventually find the 1/2" UNF for the bottom of the upright? There wasn't one attached to my upright (as the manual said), but there is one in the fastener pack that fits...

Did you find that you had to root around in several different places to find what you needed?

Ned,

Derek sent me some through the post.

think that they were missing from other peoples kits too.

I get the impression that the bags of bolts supplied are perhaps 'off the shelf' standard bags and they supplement these with extra fixings kits for the 160. I have quite a few bits and bobs left over.

I did find that I had to use some initiative with the build manual. (E.g. The engine mount bolts instructions were clearly not right - and check with Derek about spring washers for these, that are not mentioned in the manual)

Yes, you're right... I think I redid them three times before I was happy. Now, the shrink wrapped wires reach just the right distance into the engine bay, so that things are tidy!
